Vaginal dryness: talk about it, then treat it
Vaginal dryness affects one woman in two after the menopause, and far earlier for some. It is a frequent reason for consulting, it can be treated — and it deserves better than silence.

Signs we often keep to ourselves
Falling oestrogen levels thin the mucous membrane and reduce natural lubrication. Dryness, tightness, burning, daily discomfort and often pain during intercourse then set in.
These signs are neither inevitable nor an unavoidable consequence of age. They also appear after certain treatments, after childbirth, during breastfeeding or on contraception, and get worse without care.
- daily dryness and tightness
- burning or itching
- pain during intercourse
- recurrent urinary infections or thrush
- a feeling of laxity or discomfort
The consultation
The interview establishes how long the signs have been present, their impact and the hormonal context. An examination is offered, never imposed, and explained at every step.
Care is medical: local treatments, specific moisturisers, local hormonal treatment when it is indicated and not contraindicated, and treatments carried out at the clinic to improve the quality of the mucous membrane.
The options are presented with their limits and their contraindications, including where a medical history rules out certain treatments.
A subject treated like any other
The consultation takes place in a medical setting, without judgement and without euphemism. Many patients wait years before mentioning it, believing that it cannot be treated.
Vaginal dryness is often part of a wider picture — menopause, drier skin, finer hair — which is managed as a whole at the clinic.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be menopausal to consult?
No. Vaginal dryness can occur much earlier: after childbirth, during breastfeeding, on certain treatments or contraceptives, or with no obvious hormonal cause.
Are the treatments hormonal?
Not necessarily. There are non-hormonal, local options, as well as treatments carried out at the clinic. The choice depends on your medical history and your preferences.
Can it improve lastingly?
Yes, provided there is follow-up: the mucous membrane becomes fragile again if care is interrupted. Maintenance is therefore often planned.
